Grief is my constant companion---
She never leaves my side.
She wakes me up in the morning,
And puts me to sleep every night.
She is a grey cloud above my head,
With a quiet, gentle rain ---
She slowly takes my umbrella and closes it,
So I feel her raindrops on my face.
We then sit together side by side,
On a park bench, drenched in rain.
She lets me cry, and listens to me
Lament my losses and my sorrows.
She comforts me when no one else does.
Only she understands me entirely.
She knows exactly what I need ---
Just a silent place to feel.
When everyone else has run away,
When their words no longer help,
Grief remains here, right where I am ---
Without any words to say.
Grief, O faithful grief, how you never fail
To walk with me in the dark.
And how you remind me to appreciate
The brighter days to come.
